I recently had the chance to put the Holosun HM3XT magnifier through its paces, and let me tell you, it’s a mixed bag. On the one hand, it’s incredibly compact and lightweight, thanks to its titanium construction.
The quick detach throw lever mount is smooth and secure, and the flip-to-side design keeps the magnifier out of the way when not needed. These features make it ideal for an AR platform where weight and rail space are at a premium.
Specifications:
- Magnification: 3x
- Eye Relief: 18mm
- Weight: 8.1 oz
- Mount: QD Throw Lever Mount
Best Features:
- Compact and Lightweight
- Clear Glass with Decent Eye Relief (for most)
- Robust and Secure Flip-to-Side Mount
- Titanium Construction for Durability
Advantages:
The Holosun HM3XT shines in its size and weight savings. It adds minimal bulk to your rifle while offering a significant magnification boost for those longer-range engagements. The flip-to-side mount is fantastic, allowing for quick transitions between magnified and unmagnified views. The glass clarity is good, providing a crisp sight picture.
Disadvantages:
Here’s where things get interesting. The advertised eye relief of 18mm is a bit misleading. While usable, it can be finicky, especially with larger caliber rifles. You might find yourself needing to adjust your head position more than you’d like to acquire a good sight picture. Additionally, the throw lever mount, while secure, includes a rear recoil lug that can limit rearward placement on the rail. This can again affect eye relief for some shooters.
My Experience:
For plinking and target shooting at moderate distances, the Holosun HM3XT is a great option. The compact size and clear glass make it a joy to use. However, for serious long-range shooting or use with larger calibers, the limited eye relief might become a concern.
Customer Comments:
Online reviews seem to echo my experience. Many users praise the magnifier’s compactness and build quality, while others note the potential eye relief limitations. Some lefty shooters also mentioned minor mounting inconveniences due to the throw lever design.
Overall:
The Holosun HM3XT magnifier is a solid option for those seeking a compact and lightweight magnification solution. However, be mindful of the eye relief limitations, especially if you plan on using it with larger calibers or for long-range shooting. If eye relief isn’t a major concern, the HM3XT is a great magnifier that won’t weigh you down.

I’ve been pleased and the color match of the TI version is perfect. It works well with my Holosun 510c and love the quick disconnect for Picatinny rail and I would recommend this to family and friends.

I almost didn’t order this magnifier, but really glad I did. It took away the effects of my astigmatism on the red dot. My red dot looks like a small clump of grapes, but with this magnifier the dot looks perfect after adjusting the diopter. Seems really well built, I have several other holosun products and no complaints.

Love it… Bright, clear optics w nice AR coatings. Very compact and very rugged. Magnifier swings out of the way & locks positively. Titanium housing is machined precisely & the mount is solid. Anyone buying this won’t be disappointed.

I like this magnifier for the glass clarity and simplicity of use. I have a couple other magnifiers and they have some kind of release to press or some way to manipulate the magnifier to make it flip aside. This one has a simple, solid index point which makes flipping it up and down easy but has enough retention to avoid having it accidentally flip aside. I really like that it includes the spacer needed for lower 1/3 co-witness which is how I'm running my Holosun 510c (I did have to purchase the riser for that separately). One star off for weight, and the fact that the front bezel extends beyond the mount and makes it take up an extra T slot on the picatinny rail. I wish I could bump my 510C flush to the magnifier but when I do, the front bezel catches on the 510c.

The magnifier is pretty good for the money. However, since the mount and magnifier are a package deal and most aftermarket magnifier mounts won’t work with this model, I’m reviewing them as one. The mount lost tension and flops all over if I’m moving quickly or moving the rifle a lot. Tried tightening it, nothing changed when torqued to spec. Not ideal. And since I paint all of my gear on my rifle, optics planet refused the return.
