Solid construction, but slightly heavier than I expected.

Clear glass, no distortion. Best sight I’ve owned so far.

No problems with recoil on my .45 ACP.

Leupold makes good quality stuff, especially if it’s made in USA. I have several their items, and their products are worth the extra money if you believe in the American worker. This is no different.
Worthy of 4.5 stars but there is room for improvement.
Mount on front receiver (65 inch pounds torque) forward, not back toward your eyes.
I put on a new model Vortex 3x magnifier on with the Freedom RDS. Together, the two are perfect, with a perfect fit. Both fit on the front receiver picatinney rail, w/ a 1/4” to between. I did add a flip up buis in front of the RDS. How effective the BUIS is or if it will sight in well, I don’t know. We’ll see. Another step in the project. IMO, as a weapon for protection better to have it, than to not.
Sighting in was a bit challenging, due to (maybe) somebody had bought this before and returned it. And… maybe they couldn’t get it to zero, or didn’t read the instructions or… I don’t know. What I do know is, I had to get a 4×8 sheet of old drywall to find where my bullets were impacting. Once I had that information, zeroing to 50 yards was quick, by moving the impact to center, then going to the bulls eye. After that, zeroing to 100 yards was pretty quick.
I used the RDS 1x red dot to get close, then folded over the 3x Vortex magnifier. It’s spot on at a 100 yards with 55 gr, 5.56, 3240 FPS Winchester ammo. Next comes the test to find an ammunition that “most” closely matches the turret markings on the Leupold RDS, at the marked yardages of the turret. I guess I could call Leupold with Ammo info for them to make another turret for $80. But, what challenge would that be. And… didn’t the Army teach me this stuff?
My weapon shoots well and the Freedom RDS is a positive thing to do to an AR-15. I just don’t believe a hunting scope is the right look or feel for an AR. However, the RDS seems to be a AR friendly addition.
Be safe, use the safety on your weapon.
Please be a responsible gun owner.
Thank you.

Mounted easily on my 1911, and the sight hasn’t budged.

I have only used it for target shooting once. Cant wait to try it on my groundhog problem!

Great 1x optic for the money.
This is not a small unit, it weighs 7oz or so, and it has a dot.
The red dot blooms a bit under high brightness settings, and if you have uncorrected astigmatism you will see a constellation.
I put this on my 9mm carbine and it’s spot on after zeroing.

Great red dot scope. Bolted this on a Ruger American Ranch 450 bushmaster and it was right on at 50 yards with no adjustment. Need to get it on a bench and zero in at 100 but so far really impressed. It is a solid build for a red dot and has nice features. Definitely would consider this on other firearms as well.

I have many Leopold scopes on my long rifles. I was disappointed with the Freedom RDS. Return to sender.
I should have listen to the guys on YouTube.
Westie –
The scope is exactly what I wanted and was perfect. I just resent paying sales tax for an out of state purchase and I wonder if in fact all these sales tax are sent to the state department of revenue. With the addition of sales tax there is no incentive to buy from Amazon.
MouseFather –
Just built my first AR and this is the cherry on top. Excellent scope, great clarity, and I can’t wait to add a magnifier. Adjustments are made easy with audible clicks and large ticks on the dial. Only down fall is the optics are not capped like so many of the others in this price point.

Had a slight issue with zeroing, but resolved quickly.
