The Good:
1. Huge viewing window.
2. Very little parallax.
3. Super easy to zero.
4. Stayed perfect through 150 rounds 5.56.
5. Rugged & Combat ready.
6. One AA Battery.
7. Great battery life.
8. Auto shutoff & auto on.
9. Simple and very easy to use.
10. Looks bad ass!
The Bad:
1. Quick release attachment seemed wonky at first.
2. The neoprene cover was a little tough to get on the sight.
Took this Meprolight Tru-Dot RDS to the range today for the first time and am very happy with my decision to buy this sight. Before I went to the range, I made the mistake of trying to use a boresight laser to zero it, but didn’t have enough space in my apartment to do it properly, nor the experience using it, so I messed up the factory zero unintentionaly. It still only took 5 rounds to zero it on the 50m range. See attached pictures to see my shot pattern at 200 yards with this RDS.
I’m just super happy with this sight and would recommend it very, very highly. I think this site is a bargain at the $379 I paid for it and am happy such a quality and precision combat ready RDS is available at a price I was able to afford. If it had cost much more, I would have had to settle for something nowhere near this sight’s specs, features and quality.

This optic simply must be one of the best values on the market today. Meprolight makes the optics for the IDF, and organization that used their gear, and uses it hard. I have used optics, stuff from trijicon, aimpoint, eotech, vortex, and cheap stuff as well. You get what you pay for, but in this case, I feel like you get a bit more. If you need a truly go to war capable sight, but don’t want to spend the money for a trijicon (the only optics I like more than this) it will serve you well.
Long battery life, coupled with an easily obtainable battery (AA) means it can be kept ready to go for months on end, or turned off to save the batteries if you won’t need it an a moment’s notice. Controls are easy to use and soldier friendly stupid simple.
Tough as nails, it has withstood being dropped, banged up against things, and (literally) being thrown in the back of a truck with nothing other than cosmetic damage and maintained zero through hours of training and 1000s of rounds through my rifle.
I’m not sure if it’s as tough as an Eotech (which I have seen continue to work even when the glass has been broken) as I suspect the polymer hood makes it more susceptible to cracking, but I have not had it break yet to find out. The batteries last far longer and only takes a single AA.
Compared to the Trijicon Reflex (which is my favorite reflex sight and what I carried on my rifle when I was in the Army) it’s roughly half the price. And while the trijicon doesn’t take batteries at all, for normal usage, the Meprolight is a better value for stateside usage IMHO.
I really like this sight, and would recommend it highly.

I purchased two of these Meprolight Tru-Dot RDS sights because the specs were very appealing to me, and comparable to many other red dot optics on the market. I put one on my Colt LE6920, and the other on my Sig 556.
First and foremost- only use lithium AA batteries in this sight. I use Energizer lithium AA batteries myself. You will get much longer battery life, better battery performance in cold weather, and you will not risk a leaking alkaline battery damaging your sight. Why spend ~$300 on an optic and run a $0.25 battery in it? A lithium battery supposedly provides around 15,000 hrs of run time with this sight.
I really like the large viewing window of this sight. It is very similar to the EoTech in this regard. I am not a fan of the small, tubular shaped red dot sights. Follow the instructions that are included for zeroing the RDS. It is easy to do, and works as advertised.
Overall, I think that the Meprolight Tru-Dot RDS represents a great value on a mil spec, combat proven optic. It’s cheaper than the EoTech 512, and has much better battery life.

Has worked perfectly for several range trips. Has a larger, clearer field of view than all red dot sights I’ve seen. Dot seems as crisp as possible. The one piece glass prism is super clear. The brightness settings are perfectly adequate even in bright daylight. I don’t need ten to twenty brightness settings. Very rugged and solid.
Updated 2/9/2018:
After about two and a half years of use and a few battery changes, my battery leaked and caused a bunch of gunk and corrosion in the battery compartment. I’ve read this has happened to quite a few people.
I was using a high quality AA battery too; not the cheap “heavy duty” AA battery that came with the sight. Luckily I was able to clean it all out and didn’t damage the sight. If it leaks again I’ll probably knock off another star.
Update 8/26/2018
The RDS has started shutting off intermentently during shooting. I’ve made sure the battery cap is tight. It’s a shame because this sight has so much potential. I’m lowering my review from 3 to 1 star. I bought another Aimpoint PRO on sale for less than the RDS cost and can depend on it.
