*EDIT 6/9/2020*
I just received my replacement unit. This time there is no rattling, the strange hole/cutout on the underside is still present, so must be part of the design. The retail box this comes in was not wrapped or secured by any means, so this must also be standard procedure. Have not shot or zero’d in yet, but like my previous initial overview, seems like a pretty solidly built optic, everything works as it should. I’ve heard good things about Sightmark, but I’ve also heard less than stellar reviews about their products, more so their older units. So only time will tell with durability and if it holds zero but overall i’m satisfied
*ORIGINAL Review*
Bought this to mount on my 7″ AR-9 pistol. Since it is a smaller firearm meant for home defense/close quarters scenarios/range & plinking, i was looking for something with a larger MOA reticle I could more easily pick up and place on target, not to mention help with my astigmatism. Overall size was a factor too, couldn’t be too large or too small in overall dimensions. As well as be an open reflex style instead of a tube. This Core Shot seemed to fit the bill.
First thing i noticed was that the box was received without any kind of tape, shrink wrap, or cellophane. This is my first Sightmark purchase so i’m not familiar with how their items are packaged. Just the product box inside the amazon box. It didn’t open during shipment which was a surprise, but everything seemed to be in order and no damage. Sliding open the box, it was a nice presentation and everything that it was supposed to come with was present. After examining the optic closer, I noticed it had a rattle when moved around or shaken. I removed all the mounting screws and it was still present. I fully mounted everything and it was still present (see video clip). Upon further inspection, i noticed a little cutaway of sorts on the underside that didn’t match up with the opposite side of the unit (see pictures). Its fairly clean so i’m not sure if it was an intentional part of the design, or if was actually broken. Apart from that, in the same spot, you can see there appears to be a split of sorts in the housing. Again, not sure if this is indeed a defect or intentional.
I reached out to Sightmark customer service and they said it sounded like It would need to be sent in for a warranty repair. I figured I would try the “easier/faster” route first and get it replaced through amazon and see if the next unit i receive is any better or the same. I will update this review once the replacement unit comes in.
Other than that, appears to be a solid built device, all button functions are normal, 5 moa reticle is visible and reacts as it should to the different button presses.

I have other full size Sightmarks and I like them a lot. This is very compact size sight I put on a AR9. I mounted it without the riser. I ran out of elevation while bore sighting it so I may hav wrong end up using the riser. Not too happy with lack of elevation adjustment. I should have just gone with the tried and true full size Sightmark sights.
Amazon Customer –
Overall, very happy with this site.. Wide optic provides for a nice field of view using both eyes. Quickly able to get on target and so far, holds center after several rounds of slugs from an AR-12 and on the 556. Includes a riser mount to co-witness.
Change the battery too. Although it comes with one, it’s peace of mind knowing you are starting fresh.

Amazon, stop selling broken/defective units! Look at the reviews and you’ll see that clearly broken sights are being sent out on a *regular basis*.
My sight would display the dot okay but as soon as you move, it would shut off! It’s not the battery either because it stays on fine so long as you don’t move at all.
I wanted to think the people leaving reviews saying their product was broken were a vocal minority but clearly something is wrong here. At best, Amazon keeps shipping around the same broken, returned products (it looked like the package might’ve been opened before). And at worst, Sightmark is shipping out a broken model en masse.
I had a bad feeling after reading reviews *after* I’d placed my order. Luckily I ordered a different optic before this one even arrived because I had a feeling mine was going to be broken as well. It’s a shame, because I have a different Sightmark model as well and it’s been fine. Something strange is clearly going on here, and shame on anyone continuing to sell these.

Easy to mount, sight in was easy, adjustments worked just as they should. Held zero perfectly so far on a sub 2000. Build quality is great, red dot has a little haze on higher settings but for less than $100 how can you complain.

Sight appeared to be built solid but would turn off after a few seconds. End up returning after trying to correct without success.

Great accuracy and great quality
