Durable and well-built. Took it through a rainstorm, and it held up.

Great light, but not a lot of holsters advertise compatibility specifically to the TLR-3. Because of the square projection on the bottom, this light will NOT fit into holsters designed to hold a pistol with Streamlight’s TLR-1. Fortunately, it can fit into holsters designed for larger lights, like Safariland’s 6230 series.

TLR-3 on Beretta PX4 9mm Compact
Let me start by saying I do very few reviews and the ones I do are usually short and sweet. But I’m impressed with this light for my gun so I want to make a few points.
First of all, this is a great fit for my PX4 Compact 9mm. No wobble in any direction using the “A” key and it protrudes about 1/2 inch past the barrel. I almost purchased the TRL1 but then realized it’s longer and I wanted the shortest possible light for my compact model. This was the right choice. So those of you looking at these lights be sure to read the specs before purchasing.
Other points of interest:
-This light is rated around 150 lumens, maybe less, I don’t remember. There are others rated at much higher values, but let me just say this…this thing is bright as all get-up! It puts out ample light (an understatement) for indoor use. It’s downright blinding if pointed at your face. For indoor use, which is why I bought it, I can’t even imaging the benefit of something twice as bright. If buying for use at the range, or if you live in some mansion and have a bedroom 25 yards long, then you might benefit from even more lighting, idk. I bought with one thing in mind. I wanted a mounted light that would light up a hallway or bedroom or backyard and that’s it. Don’t need something to light up a pasture. For me needs, this thing fits the bill perfectly.
-No bells and whistles. No laser, no strobe. Again this is what I wanted. Simplicity. I don’t want to be in a stressful situation after being awoken in the middle of the night and have to fiddle with multiple setting with adrenaline pumping. I like it simple, on/off. Again, this light checks off that box as well. It can be turned on continuously or “pulsed” as need by simply pushing the rotating switch clockwise or counter-clockwise. The set up of the switch makes this very simple and intuitive and can be done with either hand. The switch sits just in front of, almost touching, the front of my trigger guard. Let me clarify what I mean by pulsed. It’s not a strobe, by simply pushing downward/counter-clockwise on the dial on the left side, or pushing up on the right side, the light stays on until you release pressure. Perfect for quickly lighting an area for a peek, then going incognito as needed.
-Comes with multiple “keys” for various rail designs.
-Simple to install/remove using a coin. Takes seconds.
I will say I really didn’t think of one thing until I mounted it. I use my PX4 for both home defense (bedside safe) and carry. Of course now I have to remove the light if I’m grabbing it to carry. Seems obvious but if your considering a hand held flashlight or a rail mounted light keep this in mind.
Overall I’m very pleased with my purchase. Solid build, low price compared to laser and strobe versions, comes with several keys for multiple models of guns and it super bright and small. If you’re teetering on getting one, and your needs fit mine, just get it. It’s awesome!
One more thing of note: If you have painted dot sights like me, you won’t be able to see the colored dots if lighting a dark room, not unless enough light is bounced around the room to provide backlighting. However, I found I can easily pick up the sight picture because I have space on either side of my front sight when lined up between the rear steel U shaped sight. I can’t make out the dots but I can at least place the front sight right in-between the “U”. Not ideal for shots at distance, but again, not a concern for me. Should the worst scenario every play out in my house, it will be in close quarters. Not need for accuracy at long ranges.

I just wanted a flashlight for my pistol, but most now come with a laser as well so the options are limited. I don’t really like lasers, and they tend to add bulk to the light which I don’t want. This is one of the nicer middle-of-the-road lights available. Anything cheaper is likely intended as decoration or for airsoft, anything more expensive tends to be a lot more expensive.
I bought this light for use on my 1911 with a Recover Tactical grip system. The grips basically add a small rail section just under the barrel allowing for the mounting of a light or laser. This light mounted nicely and does not protrude beyond the barrel. It does not fit snugly to the trigger guard, but the set up on my 1911 is not typical and the manufacturer can’t be expected to account for every type of rail possible. That said, it is securely attached and the controls are accessible when in use with my pistol. there is a 1/4″ gap between the light and trigger guard, I can live with it. The Recover 1911 system comes with a holster that can accommodate a light, and this fits in there nicely. It is reasonably easy to holster and draw, which was a major factor for me.
The controls work well and are easy to operate and access. The light itself is bright without being too bright. I did an experiment where I turn off my lights at night and sat in the dark for a while so my eyes would adjust, then turned this light on. It was bright but did not blind me, but seems bright enough that anyone on the other end would not be able to say the same.
I haven’t had the chance to fire any rounds with it attached, however it seems very well made so I feel confident it will be fine. I’ll update this review should I prove to be wrong.
I am very happy with the purchase, it functions very well and I didn’t need to forgo a car payment to be able to afford it.
Update: I’ve fired 250 rounds through my 1911 with the light installed, it is still perfectly functional and did not lose its grip on the rail at all. I’m very happy with this purchase
