I’ve been through a few red dot sights in my shooting career, but the Trijicon RCR is in a league of its own. This thing is built like a tank. Machined from 7075-T6 aluminum, it feels indestructible in your hand. Trijicon boasts it meets military and law enforcement standards, and after a few hundred rounds at the range, I have no doubt.
Here’s a breakdown of the specs and why I love it:
- Specs: Ruggedized closed emitter design, uses common RMR footprint for mounting, boasts a generous field of view, and runs on a single CR2032 battery (claimed 3-6 years depending on brightness setting).
- Best Features: The highlight for me is the durability. I dropped it (accidentally, of course) on the steel range floor, and it shrugged it off like a champ. Plus, the top-loading battery compartment is a game-changer. No more messing with the sight to change the battery.
- Advantages: The field of view is fantastic, making target acquisition a breeze. The 8 brightness settings allow you to adjust the red dot for any lighting condition. It also uses the same footprint as the RMR, so finding a mount for your favorite pistol is easy.
Now, it’s not perfect.
- Disadvantages: Let’s be honest, the price tag is hefty. We’re talking well over $800. But for a bombproof red dot sight, it might be worth the investment. Some users online also mentioned a slight learning curve with the dot size, but that’s easily remedied with practice.
Putting it to the Test:
At the range, the RCR was everything I hoped for. The dot was crisp and clear, and the sight itself disappeared when I brought the gun up, leaving just the target in focus. My groupings tightened up noticeably, and follow-up shots were lightning fast.
Online Buzz:
Customer reviews on forums tend to echo my experience. Praises center around the RCR’s legendary toughness and clear sight picture. However, some budget-minded shooters found the price a sticking point.
Overall, the Trijicon RCR is a top-of-the-line red dot sight for those who demand the absolute best. It’s not cheap, but if you’re looking for an unbreakable optic that enhances your shooting performance, the RCR is definitely worth the splurge.

I bought this optic to replace my RMR on my duty weapon. The enclosed emitter and top loading battery were a big selling point for me. When looking through the glass, you get a much better sight picture than the RMR or other similar optics due to a larger window. I mounted this optic on my Staccato P and it fit perfectly on the existing RMR plate already on the handgun. It only took a few adjustments to obtain a zero at 15 yards. I have no doubts about its durability and reliability.
